How to build backlinks for a pre-launch SaaS

You don't need a finished product to start building your domain authority. Here is how to earn high-DR backlinks while your SaaS is still in beta or development.

The biggest mistake technical founders make is waiting until their product is 100% finished before thinking about distribution. As noted in the startup launch checklist, SEO takes 60 to 90 days to compound. Starting your campaign on launch day guarantees you will launch to crickets.

You can, and should, start building domain authority while you are still writing code.

Step 1: the waitlist page

You cannot submit to directories without a URL. Set up a simple, one-page landing site. It must clearly state the problem you are solving, show a mockup or wireframe of the solution, and include a prominent email capture form.

Step 2: target "beta" and "upcoming" directories

Many directories are specifically designed for pre-launch products. BetaList is the best-known example here. Submitting to BetaList takes a few weeks to get approved (unless you pay to expedite), which lines up well with a pre-launch timeline. There are also several other Product Hunt alternatives you should target.

Other good targets include StartuPage and any directory that accepts "Waitlist" URLs. These provide instant foundational dofollow links that help your domain escape the "Google Sandbox."

Step 3: foundational profiles

Set up your Crunchbase, LinkedIn Company Page, and Twitter profiles. Link them all to your waitlist domain. Social links are nofollow, but Crunchbase is dofollow and establishes your brand as a real entity in Google's Knowledge Graph.
